This is the list of proposed Community Groups. To express support for a group, you must have a W3C account. Once a group has sufficient support (5 supporters), W3C announces its creation, lists it on the current groups page, and people can join it to begin work.
Community Groups are proposed and run by the community. Although W3C hosts these conversations, the groups do not necessarily represent the views of the W3C Membership or staff.
The Child Online Safety Codes Community Group develops, in the open, voluntary codes of conduct that turn legal duties to protect children online into specific, measurable commitments for online services. Its first work item is a draft Union-level code of conduct for online child safety, offered for assessment under Article 45 of the EU Digital Services Act.
The group publishes Community Group Reports: code drafts, a change log, a common metric dictionary for reporting indicators, and summaries of public consultation responses. Anyone can review and comment, including child-rights organisations, researchers, service providers, regulators and young people’s representatives.
The group does not write technical specifications. Where a commitment depends on a web technology, such as privacy-preserving age assurance with Verifiable Credentials and the Digital Credentials API, or interoperable guardian tools, the group points to existing W3C work and brings its requirements to the relevant groups, including the Online Safety Community Group.
This group does not certify, audit or endorse any organisation, service or code, and taking part implies no W3C endorsement. Decisions on adopting the code itself are taken by its signatories under the code’s own governance, outside this group.
